With 33 years in the sector up her sleeve, Victoria has a wealth of knowledge and experience working in aged care. Victoria has worked as a Diversional Therapist in aged care all across Australia throughout her career. Her current role as Lifestyle Coordinator at Regis Macleod over the last 5 and a half years is perfectly suited to her as she “loves elderly people as well as the creative side of the job.”

“Each day is different” for Victoria, keeping her on her toes and making her work all the more interesting. However, the highlight of her day is always the morning; “I have a gorgeous resident who greets me each morning, is excited that I am here and always asks me what activities we have planned for the day.” Moments like these make her job exceptionally more rewarding.

Victoria loves her role because “I get to know the fascinating and inspiring stories of each resident and get to have lots of fun.” The supportive team at Regis Macleod also makes an enormous difference to making her work fulfilling. “Each of the Lifestyle team members have a different approach and perspective to their roles, and they all do such an amazing job.” “I greatly appreciate the support I receive from my managers and all the extra things that they do to make my role that much easier.”

Victoria’s loves working with the elderly because they’re “so generous, thoughtful and have so much wisdom to give.”

For anyone considering a career in aged care, Victoria advises “it is a challenging industry to work in and yet it is so rewarding. Lifestyle may look easy but there is so much more to it. You need to be prepared, yet flexible and open to what each day can bring. There is always more you can do, but you need to look after yourself first to bring your best to your job.”

Home to Victoria is a place where she can unwind from the rest of the world and “relax with my feet up in silence reading a good book.” Victoria is an avid reader who outside of work enjoys being creative, travelling and exploring the outdoors. She also volunteers for Friends of Darebin Creek, which involves regular rubbish pick-ups along the creek and community planting days.

We commend and thank Victoria for her dedication over the years to the well-being of our residents at Regis Macleod.
