Meet Bonni, the General Manger at Regis Como in Perth. Bonni joined Regis in April 2013, and throughout the last decade, has taken on various roles for the care-led organisation. She started in the Home Care area of the business as a Home Support Worker and then a Case Coordinator, before moving into residential care as an Assistant in Nursing, an Office Coordinator, Registered Nurse, and Clinical Care Manager before her current role. This International Nurses Day is the perfect moment to highlight the incredible dedication and hard work of all our nurses, as well the opportunities they have working within the aged care sector.

Bonni shares, “I have been given these opportunities to progress my career through Regis. I feel very fortunate to be able to work here.”

What attracted Bonni to the aged care sector was her desire to make a difference in the lives of the elderly. She recalls that when she was a child, her family would regularly visit and care for their elderly neighbours. She found it fulfilling to spend time with them and make a positive impact on their lives. Later, when she started her career in aged care, she realised that she could make a real difference in the lives of many older people.

A typical day in Bonni’s role as a General Manager is a busy one. She spends most of her day reviewing assessments, monitoring the residents’ care, and planning and implementing improvements throughout the residence. Bonni also provides support and guidance to her team and liaises with other departments to ensure that residents receive the best possible care.

What Bonni loves about her role is the opportunity to work with the elderly and her team. She says that “every day is different, and I learn something new every day.” She finds it rewarding to see the residents’ quality of life improve and to witness the positive impact her team makes on their lives.

Bonnie also values the Regis Como team and environment they’ve established. She expresses, “I love working with my team. We support each other every day and even more so when we are having some more challenging times. The team, residents and families have all made me feel so welcome and the support I have received from stepping into the General Manager role has been wonderful.”

For those who aspire to have a career in aged care, Bonni advises them to have a genuine passion for it. She says, “working in aged care can be challenging, but it is also rewarding. Be patient, compassionate, and understanding as you work with the elderly. If you have a genuine passion, then do it. You never know where aged care could take you.”

Bonni’s journey in the aged care industry is a true testament to her dedication and passion for making a difference in the lives of the elderly.
