In honour of International Volunteer Day, we turn the spotlight on individuals who exemplify the true essence of care. This special day acknowledges and celebrates the invaluable contributions of volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time to improve the lives of others. Today, we introduce you to Shirley, a remarkable volunteer whose companionship is making a lasting impact on the lives of seniors in Gatton. Shirley has been volunteering at Regis Gatton for an impressive 20 years.

To Shirley, care means embodying qualities like gentleness, kindness, compassion and patience. It’s a philosophy she carries with her every day as she walks through the doors of Regis Gatton.

This inspiring individual became a volunteer in the caregiving field, not out of necessity but a deep desire to contribute. She yearned for something meaningful, something that could fill her days and also fill the hearts of others.

As a volunteer at Regis Gatton, her days are filled with activities aimed at enriching the lives of residents. She arrives with a smile, consults with the Lifestyle team to plan the day’s activities and then goes on to greet the residents, forging meaningful, personal connections. She runs various activities such as bingo, hoy and crafts, and also leads the walking group. Her role is to engage with residents, not just in structured activities but in meaningful interactions that brighten their days.

Caregiving has given Shirley not only a sense of purpose but also a sense of value. Thank you for your dedication and compassion.
